About Alex

Hi! I’m Alex. I’m originally from California, and in 2018 my husband and I relocated to Zürich for what we thought would be a brief, two-year adventure. It quickly became a longer-term chapter.

Living in a new country isn’t always easy, but many parts of Swiss life just made sense: the slower pace, the work-life balance, and most of all, the access to the mountains. I’ve always liked hiking, but in Switzerland, I fell in love with it. I started hiking every chance I got, and over time, it became more than just a hobby - it became the lens through which I came to understand this country and it’s culture. I may never be Swiss on paper, but out in the mountains, it feels like home.

I started my personal blog, wanderwego.com, to document that journey. Eventually, that led me to launch The WanderWeGo Co. as a way to help others explore the Alps with the same curiosity and confidence.

Now, I get to share what I’ve learned: offering personalized advice, practical tools, and a local’s perspective to help others feel more prepared, inspired, and empowered on the trail.

Planning a hiking trip in Switzerland can feel overwhelming. Between the endless trail options, regional differences, hut etiquette, figuring out the trains, it’s a lot to figure out. That’s where WanderWeGo comes in.

Rooted in deep local knowledge and a love for the Alps, WanderWeGo was created to make Swiss hiking more approachable, more rewarding, and less stressful - for travelers and locals alike.

The name WanderWeGo is inspired by the German word wanderweg, which means trail or path. You’ll see bright yellow wanderweg signs all over the country. But more than that, I think this word really captures the spirit of hiking itself: curiosity, movement, and discovery.

Here’s what I bring with WanderWeGo:

  • Local Expertise: I’ve lived in Zurich for seven years and have hiked extensively across the country - from iconic classics to hidden areas that most tourists miss. You can check out my blog to read about some of those adventures.

  • Tailored Planning: I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all itineraries. I take time to understand what you want, so I can offer recommendations that truly fit. That often means steering away from overcrowded hotspots in favor of quieter, equally stunning regions.

  • Educational Approach: My goal isn’t just to give you a plan, it’s to make sure you feel confident once you’re here. I’ll walk you through how hiking in Switzerland actually works: trail systems, signage, local norms, and hut culture. You’ll also learn how to use essential apps, so you can navigate the mountains independently - on this trip and the next.

  • Time-Saving & Stress-Free: If you’ve ever fallen down a research rabbit hole, you’re not alone. I simplify the process with personalized advice, practical tools, and the context you need to make smart decisions - without the stress.

  • Flexible Services: Whether you want help with your whole itinerary or just a one-time consultation to get you started, I offer different levels of support to match your needs.

Whether you're a first-time visitor or a Switzerland local looking to explore more, I’m here to help you hike smarter—and with more confidence.
